Evacuation and Emergency Infromational Seminar

We would like to thank The Department Air Rescue Team (DART) and Dr. Neil Gray who presented a terrific seminar on Animals in Disaster: Planning and Implementation. Officer Hugh Briefman spoke about rescue planning, emergency kits and tactics to keep your horse and small animals safe. Dr. Gray spoke about the health hazards during and after a disaster including smoke inhalation and  information about riding and exercising your horse during and after a fire. It was extremely informative. The Los Angeles Equestrian Center gave the CPHA Foundation a room for the seminar and also Calamigos had snacks available for all. Thank you to everyone involved.

One important factor that everyone should do is to register your horse with the Department of Animal Services. It is only $14.00 per year and benefits the horse community in that it  prevents re-zoning of horse property since the city will be aware of where the horses are. It will also benefit you and your equine during an emergency to track your horse’s identity. You can get a license at your local animal shelter.
